Finding My Fortune in the Silver Mines of Potosi

Posted by on March 31st, 2013 in Bolivia, Destinations, Feature, South America | 8 comments

The day started the usual way. We headed to the market and bought some dynamite, coca leaves, 96% alcohol and orange juice. It might sound like a pretty epic Thursday evening, but that was not the case this time.

Postcard – Temples of Tikal

Posted by on March 22nd, 2013 in Central America, Feature, Guatemala, HDR, Photos, Postcards | 1 comment

It did require catching a bus at 4am, but getting to Tikal before the sunset and, more importantly, before the crowds was worth it. Watching a sun rise from an ancient temple almost all by yourself is an experience worth waking up at 4m. Some of the temples here go back over 2000 years, that is old by any standards. In my opinion, Tikal is the best temple to visit in Central America, way better than Chichen Itza, which...

24 Hours in Madrid – Photo Essay

Posted by on March 18th, 2013 in Destinations, Europe, Feature, Photos, Spain | 12 comments

After my brush with death in Pamplona with the bulls (of which I still haven’t written about), I had a flight to catch from Madrid, and this time I had pre booked my ticket for the train in advance after learning from my previous mistakes. This did leave me with 24 hours* to explore Madrid, a city that I had not visited before. And one that I had made no plans what-so-ever for. I had heard people mention that...

Seven days of Avoriaz

Posted by on January 28th, 2013 in Destinations, Europe, Feature, France | 12 comments

Fresh mountain air with views, wonderful off-piste powder, French wines, overdose of cheese and a village with horses instead of cars, that’s Avoriaz in the French Alps for you in a nut-shell. This was my first time in Portes du Soleil ski area, and I quite liked it to be honest. Ironically snow caused us massive issues in getting there, but it was worth it! Day 0: to Geneva Heathrow was in compete chaos, queues to baggage drop snaked...

Night of Tram Lines and Castles in Ghent

Posted by on January 21st, 2013 in Belgium, Destinations, Europe, Feature | 16 comments

Old medieval city, clear night sky and a camera, that’s a Saturday night sorted for me.  And Ghent fits the bill more than perfectly. So while my friends headed to the pub, I took a few hours to walk around the city with my camera. And I was not disappointed, there are canals with reflections, illuminated castles and cathedrals, tram lines and lamp posts; all offering beautiful night views. Of course the trouble was not so much finding views...

Top 5 Things to Do in Estoril

Posted by on January 18th, 2013 in Destinations, Europe, Feature, Photos, Portugal | 4 comments

If someone mentioned movie stars, Europe’s oldest casino, Formula 1 track and championship level golf, you might think of Monaco, but you would be wrong. It’s actually Estoril in Portugal that we are talking about here. Estoril is a small town on the coast of Portugal, only 25km from Lisbon. It’s where the rich and famous come to hang around in the summer months. However in the autumn and winter months it is a different story, and you can...
