I looked at the yachts and I looked at the sea, I felt like I should’ve just stepped out of a boat, not a train. I knew Ostend was a coastal city, but I hadn’t realized how much of coastal city it really was. Even the train station was surrounded from two sides by the sea and the harbour.

If someone mentioned movie stars, Europe’s oldest casino, Formula 1 track and championship level golf, you might think of Monaco, but you would be wrong. It’s actually Estoril in Portugal that we are talking about here. Estoril is a small town on the coast of Portugal, only 25km from Lisbon. It’s where the rich and famous come to hang around in the summer months. However in the autumn and winter months it is a different story, and you can get a luxury hotel for a fraction of the normal cost. Cascais, sort of big brother of Estril, is within walking distance. Last few weeks before Christmas are always insanely busy. There is the company Christmas party and all the other pre-holiday drinking get-togethers; it’s busy at work and after work you’re desperately searching for those perfect Christmas gifts all the while trying to get all your things in order before the holidays and the years end!
