Finding My Fortune in the Silver Mines of Potosi

Posted by on March 31st, 2013 in Bolivia, Destinations, Feature, South America | 8 comments

The day started the usual way. We headed to the market and bought some dynamite, coca leaves, 96% alcohol and orange juice. It might sound like a pretty epic Thursday evening, but that was not the case this time.

Seven days of Avoriaz

Posted by on January 28th, 2013 in Destinations, Europe, Feature, France | 12 comments

Fresh mountain air with views, wonderful off-piste powder, French wines, overdose of cheese and a village with horses instead of cars, that’s Avoriaz in the French Alps for you in a nut-shell. This was my first time in Portes du Soleil ski area, and I quite liked it to be honest. Ironically snow caused us massive issues in getting there, but it was worth it! Day 0: to Geneva Heathrow was in compete chaos, queues to baggage drop snaked around the terminal and we sat for two hours in the plane waiting to take off. Then instead of landing in Geneva as we had planned, we landed in Lyon with seven other planes because of closure of the Geneva airport due to snow. It was pretty grim; after waiting for three hours on the runway in Lyon we were...

Postcard – Rice Fields of Thailand

Posted by on November 2nd, 2012 in Asia, HDR, Postcards | 10 comments

When I was driving around Thailand on my motorbike, I saw a lot of rice fields. And I quite like rice fields. They just always seem so serene. Just views that make you want to go and sit down and just look at it. This photo I took on my road trip to Pai. When I saw this, I just knew I had to stop for a photo, which did happen quite a few times on that road trip if I’m honest. And this photo will also start a new series on my blog I’m calling Friday postcard! Which is pretty much what it  says on the tin. Something to hopefully cheer up your Friday and make your mind wander…   Which country has the most beautiful rice fields in your...

Top 10 Reasons Why Ski Trips to the Alps are Awesome

Posted by on April 7th, 2012 in Europe, France, Photos | 14 comments

The Alps, they are gorgeous I missed skiing last year, so I was very excited to head to the Alps this year. We have quite a big group with which we go skiing every year. Last year however around ski season I was busy enjoying coronas and tacos in Mexico and learning to surf; so no skiing for me. Being from Finland, I suppose I learned to ski about the time I learned to walk, and I do love it. In the recent years I have also developed a love/hate relationship with snowboarding, but I suppose that was just because we had a bumpy start with lots of bruises. But things are better these days with snowboarding and me, thou I think she’s not too happy that I gave her a miss on this year’s ski trip. I think...

Chocolate Hills, Tarsiers and Butterfly Bum Bum

Alona beach, white sand, blue water and green palms, what more do you need? I woke up on the Alona beach to the sound of the gentle waves softly breaking on the pure white sand; as the wind lightly teased the leaves of the palms and umm, alright, I woke up to the alarm on my phone in an apartment some 30 meters from the beach. What? I am traveling on a budget and Alona ain’t cheap! Anyhow, as I got out, I had a lingering look at the beautiful white sand beach, turned around and walked up the hill. It only took maybe 50 meters until someone was offering me a motorbike. He started at the standard 400 pesos for the day, but I managed to get it down to much more reasonable 300 pesos. I am not...
